About

Mariel Souza lives and works on the North Shore of Massachusetts with her husband, two kids, and their dog. Mariel has always enjoyed working with her hands in many different creative ways. She first fell in love with pottery in high school 25 years ago, but went on to study painting and printmaking at MassArt. After working a variety of creative jobs, she finally circled back to pottery in 2017. Mariel has a small studio at home nestled in her garden, where she makes her pots. She is a member at Chases Garage in York Maine, where all her work is glazed and fired.

Mariel works primarily on the wheel, throwing objects that are meant to be used daily, from mugs and bowls, to planters and vases. Her goal as a potter is to marry form and function with clean lines and refined shapes. Mariel's interests inform and inspire a lot of what she makes, vases to hold the flowers she grows in her garden or the perfect mug for her tea. She loves her work to be enjoyed by others as a functional art piece to brighten their day.
